Putting our Best Foot Forward in
3rd Grade!

Language Arts

The students learn life long reading skills such as finding and using context clues, inferencing, distinguishing fact and opinion, main idea, and appreciation of different genres. They learn strategies for finding information in a text that will enable them to learn and enjoy as they read. We do our best to create readers with at love for learning as well as reading.

Math
Developing number sense is one of our major goals in mathematics instruction in third grade.  We try to use a hands-on approach that incorporates lots of manipulatives in just about every skill we teach to make math FUN!  All lessons and activities are aligned with the Texas Essential of Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Students will be introduced new concepts while building on existing information.

Upon completion of third grade your child will be able to:
*read, write, and describe numbers through 999,999
*determine the value of money
*construct and compare fractions
*multiplication facts through 12 by 12
*rounding/estimating
*identify and describe patterns
*identify and describe 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional figures
*measurement (area, perimeter, weight, mass, time, temperature
*collect, organize, and interpret graphs
*selecting addition or subtraction to solve word problems

Science
Are you ready to be a scientist?  Yes, you are.  Anytime you have a question and you try to find out the answer to the question, you are a scientist!  Science is the study of the natural world, using our senses and other tools.  This year, your child will experience hands-on activities, interesting reading passages, and group investigations (labs).  Get ready to think, plan, question, explore, and observe the world of science!

Social Studies
In social studies we learn about communities.  We learn about the people that make up our community and how the diverse cultures join to make our unique American culture. We learn about the government and citizenship as we study great examples of American heroes.
